So I was doing a series of Articles at the turn of the year titled “From Fat Nerd to Chic Geek” that was a chronicle of my efforts at being a happier, healthier human being. And, honestly, they were working. I weigh almost 50 pounds less than I did at the start of the year.
If you’re wondering, “why all the white space?” That was an applause break. You should fucking clap.
I feel stronger; I know I’m faster. I have been rebuilt. On the cheap, as compared to Steve Austin.
But I have been hella busy. You may be able to tell from some of the content – I took up hiking (more on that in the future); I’m finishing my Master’s; I’m randomly flying all over the place; and I’m making increasingly poor choices about how to spend my time because I have increasingly cooler friends. Well, that’s not true, because my last batch was pretty God damn awesome, but I have some friends I’ve gotten closer to that have subsequently introduced me to other friends and so goes life. I mean, I’m not even playing video games that much guys.
I haven’t played a PvP League of Legends game in almost a week. Stop laughing. That’s a long time for me. It doesn’t help that many of my friends moved on to Diablo 3 because it’s less stressful, but whatever.
Still, the thing that I’m super proud of myself for not having given up is the working out. I don’t always manage to maintain the same schedule as when I was unemployed (by the way, I’m employed now), and by that I mean it’s not as aggressive as it used to be, but I work out four to five times a week and I’ve graduated to running a decent amount of the time I’m doing cardio.
On top of that, we really do seem to find a way to do a ton of physical recreational activity on the weekends. I mean, you mightn’t think that a 7-hour walk on a hot-ass Sunday morning is particularly calorie consuming, but I feel worn the shit out by the time we’re done. Last weekend I played Slosh Ball, which I really wanted to find a link for you to go to, but I couldn’t. There’s drinking and running involved, so it’s probably a net even, but whatever. I did a lot of both. Also had two home runs.
But a man named Barry stole one from me.
The weekend prior, I deforested what felt like most of Eastern Connecticut. That’s some hard work.
The weekend even before that was another Long Walk, but I don’t remember the name of the trail, so we’ll have to attend to it another time.
Anyway, FNtCG‘s Hiatus is coming to a close. Since I’ve maintained the diet and have become familiar enough with my work schedule to understand what I need to adjust, I’m picking the reigns back up and basically starting as though I was still on Week 6. So next week expect to see a Week 7, probably on Wednesday. Monday’s will now more regularly feature Long Walks, and Thursdays are gonna be my designer/writer days where I just complain or think about things. I have a lot of exciting shit in the works right now that I can’t actually talk about at any kind of length because it’s all in the preliminary stages, but I’m optimistic. As ever, I have to focus on what I have in front of me as the only worthwhile time is…yeah, you remember.
See what I’m doing? I’m setting myself up for the inevitable failure to keep to a schedule. Stay tuned.
…one thing that won’t becoming back are Netflix Dives. I loved doing them, and I want them back. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. We had a whole schedule planned out, but they’re just a ton of work to try to get enough people together and then watch a movie.
